Why are the scans blurry?

As you can see, many of the scans on these pages are blurry. That's not because the pictures or negatives are blurry, but rather because Fuji's consumer-grade scanning service doesn't always do a good job. If you happen to own or have access to a quality scanner that will automatically scan hundreds of photographs, and if you're willing to help with better scans, please let me know.
